Things You'll Need
1/2 cup peanut peanut butter
32 oz. low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 large banana
1 tbsp. honey
Dixie cups
Ice cream is a quick and easy treat that will add interest to your dog's mundane diet. You'll be using simple ingredients that are safe and healthy for dogs to ingest -- you can eat this treat as well. Adjust your recipe, by adding or removing ingredients, based on what you have on hand. Store the ice cream treat in the freezer as a reward when your pooch has been extra well-behaved.
Mash the banana in a bowl. It's easier to begin the mashing process with the peel on and then remove it once the banana is almost completely smashed. Blend and smash it with a fork until creamy.
Add the yogurt, honey and peanut butter to the smashed banana and stir until the mixture is well-blended and smooth. Try to get all of the chunks out.
Fill the cups to the brim with the ice cream mixture.
Put the ice cream in the freezer and let sit for five to seven hours.
Remove a treat from the freezer once the mixture hardens and let your dog enjoy it.
Tips
Cut a few slits in the banana peel before you begin mashing so it doesn't explode all over you.
If you're pressed for time, you can fill a Dixie cup with vanilla yogurt alone, and pop it in the freezer.
This recipe will yield about 10 servings. You can adjust the ingredients to make more and store them in your freezer. They last about a week.
Warnings
When adjusting the recipe, make sure to only use ingredients approved by your veterinarian. Watch your dog while he's eating and swiftly remove the Dixie cup before he tries to eat that too.
