As their name suggests, Chinese water dragons (Physignatus cocincinus) can be found in China, but are also native to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma and Laos. These large lizards are green in color, with males slightly brighter than females. They live on riverbanks and near bodies of water, rather than in them, but they're strong swimmers and can stay submerged for roughly 25 minutes.
Weighty Matters
Fully grown adult male Chinese water dragons usually measure around 3 feet in length, but females are slightly smaller. About 70 percent of their total length is made up by their tail. Their exact weight varies according to their size, but they tend to be between 1 and 2 pounds. When newly hatched, these dragons only measure around 5 to 6 inches long, including their tails, or around an inch from their snouts to their vents.
