The little marbled gecko comes from Australia, where he spends his days hiding under logs, tree bark or fallen timber. He has a flat body and his tail is often dotted with orange specks. His large finger and toe pads spread out to help him keep his grip on a slippery surface.
Bugs for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
In the wild, the marbled gecko will occasionally nosh on fruit, if it fits in his mouth, but his primary diet is built around insects, such as flies and crickets. He has a similar diet in captivity, including crickets, silkworms, mealworms and wax worms, and occasionally, fruit baby food. Keep his small mouth size in mind when it's supper time and don't offer him food that's too big for his mouth. No matter what menu you choose for your gecko, remove uneaten food after four hours so it doesn't spoil. Water is important too, and the marbled gecko will drink from a shallow dish. Your gecko may decide he enjoys bathing in his drinking water -- not uncommon for this fellow -- so be sure to change his water daily.
