This native Australian lorikeet species is aptly named "Rainbow" after its brightly colored plumage. Its scientific name is Trichoglossus haematodus. It's a medium-sized bird measuring about 10 to 12 inches and weighing about 2.6 to 5.5 ounces, although it is the largest of the Australian lorikeet species. Males and females are so similar that it is difficult to know which is which. This is a hardy bird, who is typically long-lived in captivity.
