How to Make Ferret Clothes

| Updated September 26, 2017

Things You'll Need

  • 1 bandanna (pattern of your choice)

  • Needle and thread

  • Stretchy collar for cats

  • 2 squares of Velcro (about 1-by-1-inch pieces)

  • Scissors

Animal clothing is becoming increasingly popular with pet owners around the world and is a widely growing phenomenon, especially for small animals like teacup breed dogs and even ferrets. However, purchasing these animal threads can be just as expensive as buying clothes for a child, so it's much more budget friendly to make your own ferret or other small animal clothing.

Bandanna Ferret Vest

Lay the bandanna down on a flat surface, and even out any wrinkles or folds. Iron if necessary.

Fold the bandanna once from one corner to the opposite, making it look a bit like a wide triangle.

Using your threaded needle, fold the longest tip of the triangle-shaped bandanna inward, creating a loop. Sew it into place. After you do this, slide the unhooked cat collar through the looped fabric.

Sew the Velcro squares on the remaining two points, making sure to face the textured sides upward.

Lay the vest on the ferret's back, with the folded end pointed to the tail. Fasten the Velcro-covered ends around the neck loosely, and then securely hook the collar around the torso of the ferret.

Tips

  • Using flexible and breathable materials like mesh is great for your ferret when outdoors.

Warnings

  • Do not fasten the collar or the neck pieces too tightly. You must be able to insert two fingers into the collar and neck parts.
