Electric yellow cichlids (Labidochromis caeruleus) come from Africa. These vivid citrus-colored freshwater creatures are known by a variety of descriptive monikers, including lemon yellow labs, blue streak haps and lemon drop cichlids. These somewhat fierce fish feed heavily on both meat and plants.

Electric Yellow Cichlids

In natural environments, electric yellow cichlids reside solely in the eastern region of Africa, specifically within Lake Malawi's northwestern coast. They tend to spend their time far down in the water, usually past 50 feet. Electric yellow cichlids are usually spotted in pairs or by themselves. Although electric yellow cichlids are not particularly turf-oriented, they often behave fiercely around other types of fish that look like them in terms of coloration, overall form and size.

Commercial Pellets and Flakes

In captivity, commercial fish foods with ample vegetable components make a suitable basis for the electric yellow cichlid meal plan. Both pellet and dried flake formulas are appropriate as long as you ensure the products are specifically labeled as suitable for electric yellow cichlids. If you have questions regarding a commercial formula and your pet, seek the advice of an aquatic veterinarian. Never go about feeding any pet fish- until you are fully certain that the foods you are providing are not only safe but also nutritious for the specific species.

Supplementation

Aside from pellets and flakes, these omnivores also enjoy, in moderation, bloodworms, brine shrimp and earthworms. They do not generally turn away from any types of sustenance, whether fresh, live or frozen. Vegetables such as spinach, peas, zucchini and lettuce are beneficial for electric yellow cichlids. Not only are veggies beneficial for electric yellow cichlids, they should be a major part of their dietary plans. Abstain from giving electric yellow cichlids large portions of food at once. Instead, feed three times a day or so, and keep the food at a wee pinch. If your cichlids can't finish all the food you offer in three minutes, there is too much of it.

Wild Diet

In nature, electric yellow cichlids consume diets that are heavy on meat, despite their omnivorous palates. Although these cichlids in the wild do consume algae and other plants, they also eat a lot of snails, fellow fishes, bugs, bug larvae and tiny crustaceans.
